From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.
